Anna Gray - Blue Badge Guide

My background is in environmental interpretation (the production of leaflets, booklets, posters, information panels, websites) to convey complicated concepts in simpler and more readily understandable ways.  See www.annagray.co.uk.

My career began in the 1980s with a series of information panels along the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, followed by the production of all of Calderdale Council’s tourism literature.

On moving to Cumbria, I became Interpretation Officer for LEADER+ and embarked on producing a series of leaflets aimed at raising awareness of local Cumbrian products - Cumberland sausage, honey, apples, damsons to Herdwick sheep, Fell Ponies and Lakeland slate. This project galvanised my interest in all aspects of Cumbria’s rich history, culture and tradition. On completion of this contract, I was fortunate to be commissioned by Cumbria Tourism to research information on all parts of the county for a major ‘Sense of Place’ project.

This research amassed a huge library of information that was at my fingertips awaiting further development. That development came several years later in 2011 when I trained as a Blue Badge Tourist Guide for Cumbria.

Since then, I’ve never looked back and now fill my time with the dual occupations of environmental interpretation coupled with tour guiding for visitors and locals alike.
